Call for proposals...
MAY SPACE is seeking proposals from practising artists in Australia and New Zealand for the following group exhibitions.
Submissions should be emailed directly to the Gallery with images (with captions) in support of the proposal, a link to an artist website, an up to date C/V, an artist statement and a separate, single page outlining the nature of the work you are proposing. Please keep it simple, no powerpoint or keynote files. Applications on CDs cannot be reviewed.
▶ OUT OF LINE
7 to 25 November 2017
Most works of art start with a simple line, whether that be for a preparatory sketch or giving form to an idea. The field of drawing is therefore one brimming with possibilities, innovation, and cross-pollination. Out of Line will pay homage to the fundamental nature of drawing, whilst also aiming to see these lines jump off the page, defy expectations and merge with other fields.
We are now calling for proposals from artists with drawing-based practices of varying aesthetics, mediums and technologies.
Proposals for Out of Line must be received by Friday 28 July 2017.
▶ CERAMIC REVISIONS II
28 November to 23 December 2017
Pots, tiles and clay figurines have taught us fascinating details about ancient societies and Ceramics Revisions II aims to convey how artists interact, form narratives, voice opinions and create aesthetic compositions with this medium today. The second edition of a series that started in 2009, this show will range from fine vessels to sculpted forms, encompassing a variety of ceramic techniques, as well as clay types - from terracotta to bone china.
We are now calling for proposals from artists who work in this field with particular interest in those pushing the boundaries of ceramics.
Proposals for Ceramic Revisions II must be received by Friday 25 August 2017.
5 to 23 June 2018
June will bring the winter season to Sydney and to add some warmth to our gallery we will be holding a special exhibition featuring mugs by different artists. Each Saturday we will fill purchased mugs with a different complementary hot beverage, so that gallery-goers can escape the cold and enjoy the shows with a warm drink in hand. MUGGED! aims to include specially made pieces that display diverse interpretations of this ubiquitous object. We are now seeking proposals from emerging, mid-career and established artists for contributions to this seasonal exhibition.
Proposals for MUGGED! must be received before Friday 2 March 2018.
▶ Artist as Subject
24 July to 11 August 2018
For this exhibition, accomplished artists become the subject, sitting to be portrayed by their peers. Coinciding with the Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Artist as Subject follows in this annual exhibition’s tradition of portraiture, but with the aim to display a variety of mediums. This curated show will include painted, drawn, printed, photographed and sculpted portraits by a select group of artists who have captured the likeness and personality of fellow practitioners they admire.
Proposals for Artist as Subject must be received before Friday 20 April 2018.
