Simm Steel

Steel is an award winning lighting designer, specialising in museum and heritage projects. In 2014 he was awarded a Masters Degree in Lighting from the Queensland University of Technology, after completing both a Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate. Alongside his work as a designer, Steel has been part of the judging panel for the Vivid Lighting Sculpture and Installation Awards since 2013.

Steel has exhibited in a number of galleries throughout his career, including A-Space on Cleveland, the Casula Powerhouse and Hazelhurst Regional Art Gallery. In 2009 he held his first solo exhibition husk at A-Space on Cleveland and 6300 will be his first exhibition at MAY SPACE. 

He is the recipient of a number of Illuminating Engineering Society of Australian and New Zealand Awards, including the 2018 International Award of Supreme Brilliance for his lighting of The Great Hall at the University of Sydney. Steel has written numerous articles and contributed to various publications and currently lectures at the University of Sydney.
