Todd Fuller at Stacks Projects

- DemoKinisi | Todd Fuller's 'Billy's Swan'

8 to 14 April 2020

Represented artist, Todd Fuller is now featured in STACKS Projects' exhibition series DemoKinisi, held as a response to current alterations to our ways of living in the light of Covid-19. The DemoKinisi series will run for 12 weeks as an online exhibition and an ongoing projection of art that can only be viewed from the exterior of the Gallery space in Potts Point.

Todd's work Billy's Swan 2017 will be continually projected in this second week of the series.

In Peter Darling's choreography of the 'Dream Ballet' sequence for the musical Billy Elliot, a young Billy undertakes a Pas de deux with a chair. Set to the dramatic sound track of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, Darling subverts the safety of the ballet barre replacing it with a mesmerising spinning chair balanced on pointe. Appropriating this choreography, the Artist creates a self portrait animated in charcoal on paper. Through it, Fuller re-enacts childhood experiences as a pseudo 'Billy Elliot' dancing in rural community. In the face of debate arising from a non-binding, same sex marriage postal plebiscite (and with fading technique), his hand drawn solo reflects on the relationship between gender, dance, and place, as well as the ability of the queer community to draw resilience, strength and beauty from the most chaotic of moments.

Suburbia - Kevin McKay

Kevin McKay, Rob Howe, Lucy O’Doherty, Zuza Zochowski at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery Nowra

15 February to 7 March, 2020

"In this exhibition four artists come together to explore what the Great Australian Dream looks like through different eyes. From urban scapes with industrial and commercial buildings, to idiosyncratic depictions of post war architecture and suburban streetscapes that could be anywhere. As they reflect on their own experience of home, community and place, these works reflect back to the viewer our own nostalgia, formed through popular culture and personal experience".

"With similar colour palettes across different media, these artists show how our perceptions of suburban life are embedded deep within our collective psyche".
