Janet Tavener's practice has extended over the past 30 years encompassing both photography and sculpture. Since 2002, her practice has explored the changing nature of consumption and the geopolitics of food production and distribution in both contemporary and colonial Australia. Tavener has work in the collections of North Sydney Council, Hornsby Council, Wagga Wagga Regional Art Gallery and the University of Western Sydney. She holds a BA in Fine Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Professional Art Studies - City Art Institute, Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Education - University of Technology, Sydney and a MFA from the University of NSW. In 2017 she won the Major Award of the North Sydney Art Prize and has won both the Major Award and Digital Art - Stills Award at the Hornsby Art Prize, 2016 and 2019 respectively.
